About Us
OtherEgo.com began from one young entrepreneur's vision to create a
different type of social network; a social network where users could easily share
their favorite websites and internet profiles inside one page. Starting from scratch,
and about 40 books later, the owner learned how to create dynamic and interactive webpages.
This began in January 2006 and was completed
as Rantiq.com in November 2006. It
was then redesigned in March 2007 as OtherEgo.com. (See the history
section below on how we reached this point.)
Learning from the highly complex Rantiq.com website, we changed our focus to simplicity
and easy navigation. Instead of just sharing links, we figured out a way to have
websites load inside a single profile page. This is a unique feature of our social
network. We also included simple privacy controls allowing you to hide specific
sections from the public. Instead of an all-on or all-off solution, that most social
networks are using, OtherEgo.com users can select which part of their profile to
hide/show.
History
Our (26 year-old) entrepreneur's journey really began during the end of 2005, when and idea popped
up of having a social network that shares other social network profiles and websites.
This would make it a lot easier for friends to know if you are a member of other
networks.
In January 2006, our entrepreneur decided to quit his job, move back home, and learn
how to obtain the skills needed to create something like this. As a first attempt, the result ended with Rantiq.com
(which is no longer online). Rantiq.com was a full blown social networking application,
allowing customization, highly complex privacy settings, and numerous profile sections
for members to share their information. See the screenshots and press releases below
for a closer look at Rantiq.com:

However, after the months that followed, our entrepreneur noticed that Rantiq.com
was too complex and was taking some people over an hour to create their profile
and navigate the website. Being a first attempt, there were also various inefficient
coding practices that were used, making the site difficult to maintain. It was also
observed that nobody used the complex privacy controls because they were too complex.
How did our social network become so complicated? What was our initial goal? It
was to share our social networking profiles, but the only way to
share them were
through links. Could we actually load our multiple profiles inside
our own profile?
Hence, this question lead to an experimental website called
Rinma.com. Not a social network; its sole purpose was to see if it is possible
to load websites inside another website.
After Rinma.com, our entrepreneur knew what was possible, and began redesigning
his social network. He also changed the name from Rantiq.com to OtherEgo.com because
people could not pronounce Rantiq (ran-tik), and did not associate it with a social
network. OtherEgo.com would allow a unique way to share websites, include easy and
flexible
privacy controls, and have a simple/unique design.
Success is only gained through failures and lessons. Some may say they aren't failures
at all. You either succeed or learn.
Through our dedication, learning process, and constant face time in front of the
computer, we bring you OtherEgo.com; A new social networking site that dares to
be different and serve a new purpose.
